Reverend Michael-Ray Mathews has been a PICO clergy leader since 1996, and joined the national staff in 2008. He is the director of clergy organizing and leads the Prophetic Voices Initiative, which is organizing a prophetic faith voice shaping the movement for racial and economic inclusion in the US. A native of Compton, California, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences and Communications from the University of Southern California and a Master of Divinity degree from the American Baptist Seminary of the West and the Graduate Theological Union.

Michael-Ray is married to Dené Murray-Mathews, a telecommunications engineer with AT&T Mobility. They live in San José and are the proud parents of Kenan Michael Mathews.
